After World War II, the Zuoying military area was taken by the ROC Navy and was divided to be the Third District of Navy. In 1949, the ROC government retreated to Taiwan. With more navy veteran coming from China, Third District had become First District of Navy. Reviewing this period of time, the outbreak of Chinese Civil War, Korean War and the military support from the US, the whole world and living environment had changed dramatically in just a few years. The military veterans had no choice but to adapt to the new life.
In Mingde No. 2, the space where the Japanaese former prime minister Nakasone Yasuhiro had stayed, the exhibition theme was set as "Traveling back to 1949", bringing visitors to experience the scene back then, when the military vererans carried vintage suitcase and migrated via Zhong-zhi tank to Taiwan. In the exhibition room, you can see ashtrays made out of shell, medels, suitcases, identifications and sweaters they wore while they escaped in the living room. In the kitchen, there are rice vat made out of shell and coal stove (commonly used in military veteran village for cooking and boiling water) and jars to store pickles during war era. All of these objects reflected the life of the past, recerded the track of time and bore the collective memory of military veterans.
